I just went thru the case thing. I ended up with a SKB450 tenor case. It's solid, fits the horn well and was only 113 dollars from the woodwind. It also has enough room for the neck, mouthpiece, metronome, strap and reeds. Paul Coats(here on the forum) recommended it to me. It's probably not as bomb proof as a Walt Johnson but I only needed a case for taking the horn to work(I practice at lunch) and my lessons. If you plan on traveling by air with it you may want to look into the Walt or Hiscox.

I just bought a SKB450 also for my MK VI. If fits well and like BobD said there is room inside for the neck, reeds, and mouthpiece. I also bought a Selmer case cover fo it from Muncy for another $60.00 and with the large pocket on the outside I can carry a bunch of stuff. It also is very paddad to protect the case/horn. For the money it seems to be a good every day case. I would not check it in as luggage to the airlines though. I will carry it on first.

If you want a good value, I prefer the protec contoured cases over the SKBs. My MK VI tenor fits tightly, and there is reasonable protection for all the trouble spots, especially the bell which has good padding. The padding is softer and more cushioned than the SKBs. It will also withstand carry on, but definately not checking it in....

Oh, and the zipper is far more secure than the SKB latches IMHO.

But if you can afford it, buy a Walt Johnson...it will last forever.

When I was on the road, the band flew from South Bend Indiana, to San Antonio,Texas. When I claimed my suit bag from baggage, I noticed that it had a big new black tire tread mark across it. It had actually been run over, at some point, by the baggage cart. Give the airlines your horn and regret, regret, regret.
