I'm planning on going to the store in Paris tomorrow to research the Selmer Soprano Series II. I would like to know what you think a good price would be.

Thanks!
Karla.

I paid $2,200 for my Serie II soprano from USA Horn in the United States three years ago. They had the lowest prices I could find in the US at that time. Woodwind & Brasswind had the same prices at the time. Woodwind & Brasswind have a Paris store as well as being in the US.

If you are an American buying in Europe now is not, I repeat, IS NOT the time to buy there.

The US Dollar is very weak against the Euro, todays rate is $1.00 USD = $1.05 Euro.

Considering that before 9/11 it was something $1.00 USD = .86 Euro

www.musique-et-art.com in Paris sells SII Sops (lacquered and engraved) for 2221 Euros (not including VAT Tax or Shipping).

At todays exchange rate it would cost you $2099.65 where last summer it would have only cost you around $1750.00

With todays Rates, USA Horns quoted price of $2450(negotiable) for that same horn really isnt that much more since you'd have to tack on another $100 for US Customs duties when you bring that horn back with you and your credit card company would tack on 2 or 3 percent to your purchase if your not paying in cash.

Right now, the best deals to be had would be European folks buying and importing American Products.

John T, you have your rates a bit backwards. Though it's getting closer to even, the Euro has never in its history been worth more than the dollar. A few months ago the rate was indeed around .86 dollars for 1 euro, not the other way around as you stated.

Currently one Euro buys 0.947 US dollars on the currency conversion web site of http://www.xe.net/ucc/

Sorry about that, your both right, I was using

and had reversed the country selections.

The best bet is to wait until the US$ goes up again.
