Hey. I found a selmer usa bari w/ low a for a pretty good price and i want to pick it up, but i am scared. At my school, we have the same model w/ b flat and it is quite prone to having problems. It worked well and sounded great for a little while (about 3 months) but now it is broken and the tone is bad. The tone might be me, i don't know, but i've never had problems before. But the horn is broken in three places. First, the octave mechanism doesn't always raise the pad, so it won't jump the octave. Two, the low b flat won't play because the low b pad is not covering the hole completely. Third, the fingering 1,X,X,1,X,X for bflat gives a weak tone. So i am afraid that if i buy this horn, i will be stuck with the same problems. I emailed the seller just today (it is over ebay), just a few minutes ago, so i haven't heard back yet, but anyone who owns these usa horns, please post here os send me an email at haksacker@msn.com and tell me about them. all the good and bad please, and i will greatly appreciate you. Thanks

Haksacker-These are not problems charcteristic of just Selmers and Bari's. They are problems that appear on all kinds of horns from time to time. It's known as 'out of adjustment and sticky pads'.

I think W Minor is right . Octave key is maby bent, bell has been hit and moved over, low notes won't play because of octave key staying open. Take it to a repair shop.
