I have a model 22 curved Selmer Paris Soprano which I intend to sell. I know that this is quite a rare instrument but dont really know what it may be worth.

It is in excellent condition and is in original Silver Plate. It is in the original case and still has what I assume to be the original mouthpiece.

Can anyone help me with an approx value.

Thanks

Certainly good-quality, collectable and rare, although the Selmers really got their reputation for great-playing horns with much later models - trouble is they weren't making curved sopranos then! I would suggest a range from about $1000 (which I might pay) up to about $1500 (which I wouldn't pay!).

I know that Value Guides are just that...guides...

Steve Goodson lists the value of a Modele 22 soprano at $1500 with a 15% premium for silver plate...that would make the value of a MINT, silver plate soprano $1725. Remember, that's for a perfect condition, original case, etc. horn. It even has to have the factory air still in the case ;`}

Gentlemen, you're missing the most important piece of information: it's a curved soprano, not a straight one.

I only have seen maybe a half dozen of these, including the beautiful nickel-plate one on my website. I think that one sold in excess of $2500 US.

According to an article in the Saxophone Journal, Selmer even denied ever making curved sopranos!

Remember: really rare + big name = big price. Worth it? Probably not, but it's gonna be a fairly high price item. It's also gonna depend a bit on condition and serial number.

I only said what I would pay for it. Rare yes, great player - I don't know about that!
