I found a rental return Keilwerth Alto today. Perfect condition, 6 month warranty, case, mouthpiece, etc. etc. Whoever rented this couldn't have put more than a few hours on it. Dealer is a repair center, has gone through it. $650.00

I do not know the model, although I'm sure it's the entry level. I'm a guitarist for the most part, but am looking to expand my horizons, try and add something to our 3 piece horn section when I can. I suspect I'll keep this for quite some time.

I compared it directly to a Bundy II and a Yamaha YAS 23. I also handled a Vito and a few others today, hitting the shops pretty hard. I don't know a thing about saxophones other than the fact that I love the sound, but this horn sure felt good. It had a 'substantial' feel that the others didn't. It had some weight, and just felt right.

So, does this sound reasonable? After reading through all the opinions on this board about the brand, I feel pretty comfortable. Does $650 sound in the ballpark? Thanks.

I bought two Keilwerth student Alto's recently on eBay to donate to some local schools. I picked up a ST90 in excellent condition for $400 and a brand new ST98 (which had been donated for auction) for $585.

These are both much better than the Bundy or YAS23. I also picked up two Selmer AS300's which are comparable, but I liked the Keilwerth ST90 and ST98 better than the Selmers also.

It all depends on the condition of the horn and the timing. Maybe I got excellent deals, but I also was not in a hurry to purchase anything.

Good Luck!

TimA, I know you said you were looking for an Alto, but I just saw a Keilwerth ST90 Tenor on eBay for $510 but the reserve wasn't met yet. Supposedly 2 years old in excellent condition. No photo.

Like I mentioned in the other forum I figured $100-$200 for a tune up and any corking and repadding. But I played one at a small shop in outer sacramento and liked it a lot. But the seller wanted $1400 for it on his price tag and was "willing to sell" for a "mere" $900.

Actually, NOT sold likely. I am not so sure about the familiar shade wearing feedbackless dude. As I mentioned him before. Excepting I knew I would not be available at auction close so I just went for it.
