I'm in the market for a new soprano and would welcome the opinion of those who have played the Keilwerth double neck soprano sax.
I currently play a Yamaha 62-R soprano and would like to know how people rate the different Keilwerth finishes on these double neck sopranos. I think that maybe the silver plated one would be the nicest.
I've owned black gold tenors in the past and don't care much for this finish in particular, but I currently own a regular lacquer SX90 tenor which is the bomb. Would you recommend the silver plated, regular laquere or black nickel soprano? Please advise. Thank you.

Jim,
Not a step up from what you have, but more of a "lateral move" IMHO.
The Keilwerth has a different sound than the Yamaha, but, is it better or worse? Personal & artistic preference.
Double neck? Whats the point? I think that this was the worst move that sax makers made. It isnt really an innovation. The ideal saxophone, alto, tenor or whatever, sonically & acoustically, would be a SINGLE piece of metal, neck & all. Of course, altos & tenors have to be 2 pieces for logisistical purposes, but sopranos?? INHO its a gimmick.
What happens to most players is they buy the new horn, check it out with both necks for awhile, find the one that sounds the best & then put the other one back in the case & NEVER USE IT AGAIN!!

Just noticed that my Armstrong "Heritage" was built by Keilwerth. It has a lot of potential, and I've been told it's a good horn.
Personally, I can't stand playing soprano because I don't need it(except for shows)and can't put in the time to do it justice.

There have been alot of discussions on this forum about this in other places though Idon't know if they're still around.
I almost bought a Yamaha and thought is was incredibly easy to play and had great intonation but the tone was too bright for me, but I'm just an amateur.
The Keilwerth was richer & darker for me, but I've only tried the black. I found the 2 neck Keilwerth to be better in the upper part of the horn ( esp palm keys) than the 1 pieces I tried (3 of them.)
So even though I use a straight neck I would recommend the SX-90II. Got to try them yourself though.
What's wrong with your Yamaha?

There's nothing wrong with my Yamaha 62-R. It's just that I switched to a Keilwerth SX90 tenor and alto and am very curious about the Keilwerth soprano as well. If they're as good as the tenor and alto I might make the move from my 62-R to an SX90II soprano. What I still don't know is what finish to get, should I go ahead with the switch to a Keilwerth soprano.

A big difference in the Keilwerth is that the bottom is very full.
