With the "N" in the serial, that's probably a
"MexiConn"--not worth holding onto...

Hello Saxinfo, I have one and I really dig it..I have a ( '77 I think) #N175XXX Conn Alto. I'm a player not a collector, and this horn COOKS..saying these horns are *@#$ makes me wonder about the Indian behind the arrow. Mine is a supposed to be bad one, but don't believe it. It's a great inexpensive horn, with a much prettier, sweeter tone than the selmer I tried next to it when I bought it. The horn is a screaming R&B Monster too. It's built well, quite heavy and solid with very quick action..good looking honey lacquer too..mine also has the Flower engraving..Saxinfo (alto, tenor??) how do you like yours?

I just got two of these off e-bay
darn things actually sound awesome with good tight keywork..powerfull horns..how about 150 each? I didnt expect to get either one.. one is in decent condition the other needs some work..
One is an early to mid 60's the other is from the mid 80's

Some folks are convinced these are totally bad Horns.I'd never even seen this flower model either.Mine sounded great from the first note.In fact, that's what startled me when I heard it the first time. And in it's dirty and dusty store shelf state, before I bought it...I was only looking at the cheap price tag ,as I wanted a cheapie Bar Horn.I tried a newer USA Selmer Alto first, which sounded and felt remarkably close to my silver VII Alto, hmmmm,freaky..Then I slap my Dukoff on this poor old filthy "no good" mexiConn alto and BANG..blew both those Selmers away tone-wise. And with a somewhat sweeter, fatter tone than my prized VII Alto..@#$%^&...! The Conn Alto came with a good stock neck on it. But not long after I got it, I tried an old early Selmer neck on the Conn just for kicks, and Lo and behold, it matched perfectly!! and WOW,even more of an already good thing..it now kicks butt big time..it's a monster sounding little Alto fer sure..Btw, My brand-new "Cannonball" Tenor has far worse "construction" flaws than this old Conn. The action on the Conn Alto after it's 3rd oiling, has gone from stiff, cranky and dry to slick as a weasel and the horn has cleaned up and looks like new.

I just talked to a friend who was at the Conn UMI company in Nogales. He said until a year ago they really sucked but now there has been a increase in quality. There may be a chance of them becoming a good horn again!!!... They are made in Nogales Mexico and then moved to Nogales Arizona to be shipped and final adjustmentsare made. I live about 60 miles from there so I may take a drive down there one day an check it out. Will let you know.
