does anyone have this problem? my front E is rather flat. i know bootman told to try and pitch it using the throat, but i'm just curious if anyone else has had the same problem.
thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't it true that front E is not a universally used fingering? I believe it's mostly taught in connection with altissimo, and if so, that's probably because it has to be voiced to work.
I wish I could help you further, but I don't use front E (although I'm now curious to try!).

On my horns -
6M - front E is flat, unresponsive. Front F is responsive and perfectly in tune.
10M - front E and front F are responsive and perfectly in tune.
12M - front E is flat, unresponsive. Front F is responsive and perfectly in tune.
I believe there are similarities in the 6M and 12M whereas I suspect the 10M is more akin to the older Conn saxes.
Finally, I have had excellent results with an alternate front E on all three:
Finger as if G#, but add the side high E key.

I have had similar problems with the Fron E on the 12M Tranny Bari here (read aftermarket front F key added and working perfectly), Front F, F#, G all perfectly in tune and full sounding. Front E is Flat. I use the palm key or use the throat to bring the Front E into pitch.
Never had a problem on the Conn Altos (pre 6M models) or the tenors I have had here.
The G# key venting the E will work. This will give you an E3 on a Conn Bass sax, overblowing a 6th.
