I'd drool, but I have a Conn Chu Tenor and now a Conn Chu Bari restored with a finish identical to the ones you see. That appears to be an Anderson's replate job. Yes, they are as beautiful in person as they are in pictures, just ask the guys at our last clinic who saw my Tenor. The best part is, they play even better than they look!

If you're really into some serious drooling, I can e-mail you pics of my two horns if you're interested.

I'd like to see them, Onyx. My Chu sop is on its way to Anderson via Goodson right now.

I'm thinking of having a horn done this way. I just received a late 40s Buffet tenor that needs pads and regulation, but plays top to bottom and has the lush, dark tone such a Buffet should have. Its overall physical/mechanical condition is excellent, but its lacquer is beginning to look pretty shabby, and it's in need of new soft parts. It seems tailor made for this treatment.

My concern is how silver plating will affect the tone colour. Can anyone report whether the new silver plating brightens a horn's tone? I realize the question is very unscientific, since many other factors are in play (with a repad and regulation). I'm just seeking impressions.

how much would it cost to get a horn finished like such?

It depends on how much other work is needed on the horn. My Chu tenor ran me around $1300, but I had some custom work done on it, particularly re-doing the Bis key, and the horn was kind of rough before the restoration.
