A lovely early 26M Connqueror alto in "good playing condition"...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=898229501
...with NO NECK.
"This is an ultra rare find."
Yes. Almost all 26Ms have necks.
(I dunno, what would it cost to have Karsten Gloger custom-make one? It might be worth it considering what a missing neck does to resale value.)

At least they actually said there's no neck, as opposed to 300 carefully taken pictures without ever mentioning it. :)

How can they tell if it is "good playing condition"?

Do a Roland Kirk and lip-buzz down the tenon?
Hey, it's a kind of "playing"...

We have the technology, LL.
We can rebuild it.

the reserve is pretty high for no neck. would a 6m neck work? i know a 10m neck will work on a 30m

You see, that's the kicker. The horn is from the transitional era when Conn was changing neck tapers a lot, and all the data has long since been lost.
A neck from a 6M a few hundred units away might be a safe bet, but no way to be sure. You would definitely be buying a pig in a poke here.

I'm suprised no one's noticed the line in the ad that says: "... the horn is in good playing condition." Things that make you go hmmm ...
paulwl, I was under the impression that the 26M used a variation of the VIII neck. What sayest thou?
Anyhow, I heard that bottom-line Gloger necks are around $350 (http://www.gloger-handkraft.com/), so if this 26M doesn't get above the $200 range, it might be a great buy. I think I'd wanna talk to the Gloger folks, first!
How high is the reserve, super20dan?
Take care, all!

Too early. VIIIs don't come in till about #277k; this is #272k. This is the transitional period when you see strange letters, stamps, etc. (ST'D'D, M, METRO, N, NAT'L, A, AN) on Conn altos. So AFAIK, anything goes.
