Sorry if this has been discussed before but what is the current thinking on pads for the 10M? I've read all sorts of comments on pads but have not been able to decide what to do. For example some guys have complained that certain reso pads change the sound in a negative way. How about a review of the subject?

I know I am definitely in the minority, but I use the Selmer-style (brown plastic) resos on both my 10M and Chu. It gives the horn a darker, warmer sound, IMHO.

I read that using Selmer or any dome type resonator requires raising the key heights to avoid intonation problems.

Bill,
I have just had my tranny Bari repadded with Ring pads and metal dome resos, this horn roars, intonation is excellent and all my tone holes are rolled and level. This set-up works best to my ear, lots of projection, lots of depth and longevity of pad life. What more could you ask for?

I had the pads made up here by a great repair tech who has just finished the Full alzarus Job on the Conn Tranny bari. There is nothing like having a vintage horn that plays and feels brand new.

I think you can buy these pads from Ferree's.

I heard that from Buescher purists about the domed Snap-Ins, but I was supicious it might be part of their Nefarious Master Plan to convince the world that Bueschers wouldn't play in tune with modern mouthpieces. ;-/ I've got domed boosters on several Conns (and one Buescher), and without exception, if the keys are too open, they still play sharp.
