Can anyone tell me what model saxophone, what year, and approximate worth by serial number? It is a Conn Alto Sax and the serial number is N190874. Thank You!

interesting. We had it appraised, but i didn't find out the model, we just gave the erial number, and they said $600. Others think less. That is why I asked.

From what I have read, Shooting Star models have firework like engravings. This sax has flower engravings on the bell. Can anyone help with more info?

1970 is correct. Insurance appraisals are often what a store could replace it for if it was lost. They would replace it with a new student horn.

Look at eBay for N-series Conns to see what they go for.

Flower engraving? I think one of three things:

* You've misread the serial number and it's M190874 (dated 1926, model name New Wonder, value is dependent on plating, damage and pitch)
* There was a stamping error and the serial number is M190874
* Conn just decided to try interesting engraving for a couple N-series horns

If your horn has bell keys on opposite sides of the horn and wire, as opposed to sheet metal, keyguards, the serial is M190874 -- and M essentially just means "saxophone model."

It'd also have a patent date on the horn -- unless it's a bad relacquer -- and say "LP" or "HP".

Take a look at my New Wonder pages and check.

Take care.

Thank you pete for all of your help. I tried to go to your site, and it is down. Let me give you the best descripion of the horn I can. I do not know the names of things, so bear with me. It is an Alto sax, has 8 pearl buttons(a group of 5 and a group of 3). CONN is engraved on the bell and it has 2 flowers encircling conn with leaves coming off. There are 4 large round buttons on the side of the bell that says CONN that go down to the bend. I cannot find LP or HP. The N could be and M if it is a sloppy M. It's hard to tell. Where would I look for the LP or Hp?
Thanks again.

Sorry. A bit of a DOS attack on my 'site and it was down temporarily. My e-mail is saxpics@hotmail.com.

The engravings I mention would be all around the serial number, in other words, next to the thumbrest.

I believe you're talking about the same model that Cashsax has. If it is, he swears by it. Does it have the bell keys on the right side?
