What solid silver neck is that? Presumably you had someone make a little cutaway for the F# hole?

gotcha. If you mean the line of the DEF holes not being the same as the GAB holes then mine not aligned so far as I can determine so presume its an S1. Mind you its pretty difficult to check this out what with pads etc being in the way. I'll have to go check my Yamaha to see what it is by way of comparison. Was this a change unique to Buffet or had this already happenned elsewhere?

Well,I bought the S1 tenor today and spend 6 hours with it.Its an excellent horn! Big,pure sound and comfortable key action. The sound is what I would call "tough tenor" sound. My Lawton 10B seems to work great with it.Strangely,I found the sound some ways similar to my JK "Ponzol" but S1 has more warmth in its sound than the JK.The only problem I found was with the Eb/C mechanism. The little metal bars under the Eb and C keys cause "click" and "screech" sound when I press those keys down.Anyone knows how to solve this problem? MARCEL,name of the shop is "Woodwinds".They sell mostly flutes, clarinets and violins (I guess you can blow on those, too!) and some saxes.I visited the shop yesterday and they had two vintage altos for sale.I didnīt take a closer look but the owner said they are "from the 20īs and 30īs".If you sometime come to Finland again, visit the "Millbrook Music".Its the best shop in Helsinki if you are interested in saxophones.Thats where I bought my S1 and almost all other horns from.

Delivered by Gloger Handkraft. It is cut just like the original. The octave key is of their own design and the mp-end diameter is a bit larger.

Subtone Sam, I am really happy for your new sax and I hope you'll enjoy it for years. Congratulations. Effectively, now that you say me that the sax shop in Helsinki name is "Woodwinds", I remember that it was this one I saw effectively.
Ingram, your sax is certainly a S1 effectively. I looked around there and I think that the last Superdynaction saxes were produced in 1971 approximatively. The other changes of S1 regarding to its predecessor ? I never saw or blowed a Superdynaction but I think that the keywork, in particular for the articulated C#, B,Bb low notes (left hand) and the D#,C of the right hand don't have cylindrical devices on S1 that existed on Superdynaction (not sure). Anyway,, personaly, I love this concept on the S1 that make that the eregonomy of this sax is extraordinary in my point of view.
The sound : so rich and warm also.

Oh, excuse me, Tenor Sax = Marcel. That's because I use the name "Tenor Sax" in a French sax forum.

Ingram,
You can e-mail me at marcelmunoz@wanadoo.es if you want. I would send you some pictures I took of my wrong-Superdynaction/real-S1 tenor in order for you to compare to yours.

Matt - look forward to it. I have a pre-SDA tenor which I just love, and an S1 alto, but all this talk of silver-plated S1's is driving me crazy.

For interest's sake, i use this tenor with a Silver Ponzol 120, it takes some getting use to, but I cannot recommend this combination enough. However, I also have a Lawton in the post.....

PaulT - did you buy rhe Gloger neck yourself? If so, how did you express what you were looking for, and what specifically has it improved about the horn? I have got in touch with them, but they don't tell you an awful lot on the site. The pics show that they are obviously classy bits of kit.

Yes I bought it myself. I had tested earlier one other horn with this kind of neck and decided to take it also. I think that the material makes the biggest difference. They didnt change the curves for instance. The main improvement is the brighter and more centered sound. Especially the high end sounds better. I expected also the better intonation in the high end, where my horn is not clear, but it didnt do that.

Definitely try the Gloger necks, they do make a very noticeable difference in centredness and intonation. I can wholeheartedly recommend these necks.

Yes I think I'd like to be able to get a more 'in your face' sort of attack, especially in the top end of the horn. Generally, if you can get a bright sound, you can still create a soft one but not vice versa.
