Interesting piece on ebay. Anyone know anything about these? I'm looking for a high baffle alto piece to achieve a sort of raspy, rock sound. Could this be the one?

Try the Runyon jazz mp... I have one on my Buescher 400 and I can cut glass with it....and peel paint too with it... It's a super mp and blows very easy... Also vvery easy to control too....

I think that may be the one I recently bought, and sold, on ebay. It's well made (except the lig) and might suit you, as a high baffle metal piece, its good but I realised I'd never use it. The high baffle sound just isn't for me. If you want to try something like that, you may be safer to go to a dealer and try a few, though the Buffet Le Jazz is a good piece, and if like me it doesn't suit, just sell it on.

This piece is my hot little hands now (just in time to keep this thread from falling into oblivion), but I haven't gotten to give it good blow yet. I'll let you know.

Nice playing piece, with some edge like you would expect from a high baffle, but not overly buzzy or shrill. More controllable than a Dukoff, and way better made. Yes, the lig is a royal pain, fails to be adjustable right in the range of snugness where it needs to be adjustable. I got good results with a standard soprano lig (a Yamaha I think) and with a Vandoren Optimum soprano lig. Smallish shank, really tight on my JK. Overall, after just an hour of playing, I'd say the piece is a keeper, esp given it's the only thing remotely like it I currently have and the only metal alto. I can envision using it for jazz, rock, even big band if I'm lead.
