I bought a silver plate low A SDA bari a while ago on ebay. When the horn arrived I noted that nearly all the keys had a lot of play. At first I thought it was wear, but when I tore down the horn, I saw no sign of brass on any rod ends. A local tech thinks the horn was assembled with incorrect screws/rods after the last repad.
Does anyone have a source for Buffet screws and rods? Will I have to buy rod stock that is the right size and tap to fit? Will I have to deepen the screw posts to allow better screw fit?
It seems odd that even with undersized screws and rods that there would be this much longitudinal motion (motion along the rod, as opposed to lateral motion or motion perpendicular to the rod).

It sounds like alot of fun really. You more than likely have alot of wear on that horn and will want to make sure that the rods are loose in the posts before you start replaceing rods. If the posts are tight to the rods, then they are more than likely the right rods, but really worn keys. If the posts are loose to the rods as well, then it is time to get some drill rod. Either way it sound like you are going to have some fun swedging and fitting keys.
