Howdee Guys!! Sherry asked about the Buffet S2 on an earlier threat & I (along with others) tried to give her info about the horn, The problem is that I tried the big search on the web for any info about it myself & came up with a total blank. I was wondering if anyone who actually had any first hand experience with it had any thoughts about it. I own one & think it's about average as far as pro horns go, lacking the "Selmer" resonance, but of good workmanship. Any others want to give their thoughts?

What are the technical differences between a tenor Buffet S-1 and a Superdynaction? Are there any major tonal differences? I like ny S-1 alto so much that I am looking for a tenor of the same model.

I am not 100% sure, but the biggest difference is in the keywork. SDA has not for instance this very technical right hand key-table.

Hola Checko Davila.

Hello Lowell.

Finaly I received my SDA tenor and even I had a chat with the Europ Commercial Manager for Buffet Crampon in the late 70's (Mr Richard Scotto).
In fact, my sax is a 1975 vintage. So it has the "Super Dynaction" inscription on the body but that's really a S1. Also, it hasn't the high F# key (in 1975, all the major other brands had it).
Richard explained me that when he arrived at Buffet Crampon as Europ Commercial Manager, he asked to the factory to stop writing Super Dynaction on the S1 bodies and he asked also to put the high F# in all the sax (so that's the case since 1977).

I conclude that my sax is very particular : that's a S1 sax with the Super Dynaction inscription on the body, it hasn't the high F# key, it is in mint conditions (like new with the original lacquer), the bell is engraved and the keywork is silverplated.

I heve also two explanations for you Lowell about the differences between S1 and SDA.
The right and left hands holes are in the same line in the SDA and not in the S1. Also, the spatulas of low Bb/B is not articulated on SDA and it is on S1.

That's all I can tell you ... with my bad bad English.

Oh no, I can tell something else, my tenor has a marvelous sound :o)

Marcel.

The S-1 series had a unique E flat/low C mechanism as well as an articulated (and way cool!) left hand pinky table. The original patent drawings for these great mechanisms are on my site www.saxgourmet.com. BTW, I have a very nice S-1 tenor and a near mint SD tenor for sale right now.

I am a beginner sax player from Sydney Australia.

I purchased a used alto Evette Buffet Crampon, and have had great difficulties with it. I find that if the mouthpiece is not put in a particular position, some of the high notes make a screeching noise. At other positions, some of the lower notes dont sound too clear.

I have taken it to a very experienced repairer (and paid Aus$200)who serviced the instrument. However, the problem still remains. He has told me that he does not know what is causing the problem, and has never seen anything quite like it. He says it cannot be fixed.Has anybody had the same experience?

If it cannot be fixed, which student model would people recommend?

Thanks!

There could be one of many things wrong with the horn. It's hard to diagnose the problem(s) without having the horn right there in your hands to see, play & hear. It could also be your embouchure. Have you tried another horn using the same mouthpiece? Have you tried the Buffet with a different mouthpiece? Do you have a teacher? If so, have them play the horn to see if they can figure it out.

In any case, Yamaha YAS 23 is a great student horn made these days.

Buffet Evette are student saxes which have been made in various countries, not in the same league as the SD or S1 or S2.

You should get a teacher or experienced player to try the Evette, I don't understand why a professional repairer should pronounce it unrepairable, unless some major part were lost or broken beyond redemption.
