i will be receiving, by the end of the week, my new sda tenor ("new" means purchased from the original owner, who supposedly played it lightly a couple of years from 1970 or so and put it away in a closet since), sn about 148xx.
any suggestions as to mouthpieces that are successful in helping bring out the tone of this tenor? i am currently swapping my slant sig link 4* with my brilhart tonalin great neck 4 and loving both on my 314xxx B aristocrat.

well, i received my new tenor today. one word: wow!
the tonalin works fine, gives a nice solid sound with some added brightness. the link, though, is amazing. sounds like a baritone low end, an alto top end, and a tenor through and through. buzzy if i push it and haunting if not. i'll go from there.
and the horn itself looks like it's brand new. a few small scratches back by the strap hook, other than that there's *no* wear on the thing. original pads are used, and mostly sealing. the palm key pads need replacing, but the rest just need settling. the mechanism is a bit clacky but a good pc will take care of all shortcomings.
i am happy. now for the full overhaul on the aristocrat!

sounds like a nice deal bill
I play with an 8* link STM, with la Voz medium hards, and I find this a very attractive combination tonally, particularly the bottom end. However to really get things going you just can't beat a Lawton 9BB also with laVoz MH, although I would also like to try out a 9B or plain chamber.

I used a copy of a 1950s HR Link (www.myatt.co.uk) after play testing a load of stuff. The other one which worked well was a new Meyer 6M.

actually rereading this, i realise that what I wanted to say want to say is that I play the Lawton but the Link is also OK

I also use Lawton (vintage gold-plated ones) on my SDA. Has a great boost to it. By the way, it's transitional model but plays like the old ones. ;~)

so far my gregory master 4A18 has been the one. more fluid than my link, with a bit more resistance, and very full-sounding. a bit brighter, too, though not by much (still sounds pretty dark, which i like). my tonalin is also ok, but a bit thin-sounding compared to the gregory and the link...it'll wait for the aristocrat, which is its best piece.
i will search out a lawton to try. thanks!
