Hi. I just got an Evette Buffet Crampon tenor sax from a relative. It's in pretty bad shape though. I am already playing alto, soprano, and bari. The tenor would need a complete overhaul if I choose to repair it.Is it worth my trouble, or should I buy a new one. It doesn't have a high F# key. If I do get a new tenor, which model would be sufficent. I'm seeking entry pro level. Thanks.

Is your sax one that is made in France? As you got the sax for free, I would think it would be well worth getting a repad and adjustment to see how it plays, even if it is one of the Italian made Evettes. You are probably looking at around $300 to get the work done, which you could recoup by selling if you don't like it. A lot of people love playing the vintage saxes and a lot of them don't have the high F#.

I'm not sure of the origin of it. If it isn't French, do you believe it's worth getting it fixed up? I could invest in a new sax later this year, but I won't if this one will be good enough to carry me through college and that sort of thing.

David, I recently repadded and generally put right a Buffet Evette Alto that was made in Italy. It played really well when done and the buyer was thrilled with it. This one said made in Italy on the back near the serial number. Does the sax have good lacquer and is it generally a good looking sax? If it's dog ugly you may just want to sell it cheaply with an honest description on Ebay.
