Iīm having a bit of a problem with D2 on my "new" Suberba 2 bari.D2 jumps quite easily to the fifth (A2).Also,when going from upper register (D2,E2,F2) to lower (A1,not low A,B1,G1),its a bit difficult to control the lower notes.
Iīm using a Dukoff M6 with LaVoz med.hards.
I didnīt have this problem with a Link 8* but that was too dark for my taste. Is this a common problem with bari (Iīm just starting with bari, played tenor for 20 yrs. but never had this problem with tenor, alto, sop.) or could it be that the opening of M6 is too closed (.105) or the reed too soft? Any comments welcome! Thanks again!

It's a common problem on all the saxes, but (in my experience) especially tenors and baris. And for me, it seems to be aggravated by high baffle mpcs and/or too closed a tip. Sounds like you may need to try some different setups to find one that minimizes this to the point where you can control it. My experience is consistent with yours: larger-chambered mpcs minimize the tendency. Maybe try a Runyon Custom.

Thanks,Mike R.! Have to check some other pieces in the future, altough .105 opening shouldnīt be that closed, even for bari as far as I know (its like Link 6*).The url is: http://www.kolumbus.fi/timo.haanmaki/

Explore embouchure variations. The MP exercise is a starting point, but you may need to try even looser chops as an exercise. Perhaps try a soft reed and take in more MP. Really wallow in the low notes and D2. Make them big, full and boomy. This "AHHH" to open your throat. Try making the D2 crack to A2 and then go back to D2 like an overtone exercise. Perhaps you'll discover what not to do by learning how to do it well. Your set up does not sound too bad. After trying some of this stuff, you may be able to go back to it and play it better.

Well,I did the sealing test with the Dukoff and the thing really leaks;tried a whole box of reeds on it and its a miracle this mpc even produces a sound (and actually quite nice sound). The "facing" goes halfway through the table;table&rails VERY uneven.I donīt know about bari pieces but I would never use such piece on tenor.Dukoff goes back to the shop, thats for sure.
