Isn't there a bari stand called "The Weight Lifter"? It has (or had) a large resting pad thus preventing tedious brackets to latch to the bell. I don't know if they're still around, but if anyone knows where I could find one, or could sell one to me for a reasonable price, I'd appreciate it. (Recent minor back injury)

Thanks

Have never seen this stand, but I've known a few bari players who have used a sort of prop to carry most of the weight, amounting to nothing more than a platform to rest the bow. Would such a thing have a damping effect on the horn? I don't know, but I have used one gal's platform, shaped and padded to protect the bow and prevent slippage, and it was indeed an improvement over slinging the thing around the neck. Hers was homemade, and I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to re-create.

I have one of these that i have used with my
bass sax for the last 6 or seven years. Recently
a friend bought a bass and asked about the stand
but we have been unable to locate the company.
Used to be carried in the WWBW and IMS catalogs.
YOu may try contacting the catalogs and see if
they can still get them. Good luck.

I've found out that the model in question had a recall because of some problem with its use. A newer version is sold in the "Albert Alphin Wind Instruments" catalogue. You can order a catalouge from www.alphin.bigstep.com. It's 62 bucks if you want to spend the money. I know I wont.

I have not seen this product in years. I assumed they went out of business.

If my back bugs me on a long sitting gig, I'll look for whatever is available to try a different posture. I usually end up trying to rest the bari on my clarinet case. Sometimes I try playing is off a bari stand. But sitting up straight with using a Neotech strap is usually the best position for me.

I just got an Email from Albert Alphin saying they do not have these anymore.

I wonder if a Tuba stand would do much the same?

You would still have the strap on, but the bow would rest on the adjustable stand.

I suppose a Tuba stand evolved from telephone
books, but it is more stable.
