I currently play a guardala professional bari with a fibercell medium-soft reed and a Rico Royal Metallite M7. I play a fair amount of bari and I really like the metallite for playing in big bands and combo situations. But my sax teacher thinks I might want to considering upgrading. What mouthpiece would I upgrade to that would be comparible in sound but better than the metallite?

May I recommend you contact a mouthpiece maker, like Ron Coelho and discuss your interests directly? I have been through nearly ten mouthpieces, trying to get something on the cheap and ended up very satisfied with his product.

If you can visit a music store that will let you test play, then you can compare many more varieties at once.

Unfortunately, most Bari mouthpieces are $100 or more...

I like the Vandoren B35 or the old Brilhart Tonalin stuff, but you may want a more agressive sound than these can provide.

No substitute for play testing, alas.
