What stand do you cats like for a Bb Bari? The low A stand for my Yamaha when adjusted for the Bb is just too wobbly for my tastes.

The K&M bari stand works best for a Bb bari. I don't like it for a low A bari, but it's the best I know for the Bb.

i think mine is a Hamilton, but when I got it I had to relocate the bottom support up the leg about 2 inches to even get the #&*%#(^ thing to hold my old '37 Martin searchlight. Now, other than the top of the pipe where the wide top support is, which gets in the way of the lip of the bell, it works fine. All you need is a drill and a bit just larger than the screw and you'll be about as happy as I am with mine......

Any recommended supplier for these stands, or do they deal direct, or are they available at your nearest neighborhood music store?

You can get them at the WW&BW. But you might wanna check with Steve G. He may give you a break on the price since you are getting a full OH from him.

Okay, I found a picture of the K&M stand at http://www.k-m.de/D/Katalog/instrument/2index.asp?spr=EN
How does this differ from the other look-a-like stands? Is the main post that holds the bell shorter or something? Because the one I have for the Low A horn looks identical. The problem is, for the bow to properly rest on the foot, you have to pull the legs very close together, making the entire base too unstable.

Manofsteel, the bari stand that K&M shows on their website is not the good stand that I was talking about. I hope the other one is still available. The good one for Bb horns is stainless steel. Very solid. There is a folding tripod base, but the horn is not supported by a leg. There is an adjustable double yoke that supports the bell and body. It is designed to be adjustable for both A and Bb horns, but I prefer this style only for Bb horns and prefer the now ubiquitous black tubular style for A horns.
I have a strong dislike for Hamilton bari stands. You have to clamp part of it to your bell. Ugh. And it's hard to slide back on the stand in a hurry. I know people who like to leave their horns on the stand while they play like Hamiltons, but I don't.

Bones, any idea what model number this K&M stand you are referring to is? Any place you know that carries them?

Unfortunately, no. My stand is stamped only "K&M Made in Germany."
I've actually purchased two of these, I think both from Woodwind & Brasswind. I loaned one to a friend and never got it back. So I bought a second one that I don't loan out. The first one was labelled in the WWBW catalog as "Woodwind Deluxe" as if it was their house brand. The second one was clearly identified as a K&M. The only differences between those two stands purchased several years apart were that the two yokes of the earlier were coated with rubber to protect the horn while the later one has something like velour on the same yokes. And, I think that the receiver at the top of the base on the earlier was metal, while the newer one is plastic. I would prefer the earlier one if it were available.
My concern is that with almost all mfgers only making low A bari's, and almost all players only buying low A bari's, that K&M may have discontinued this stand that works so well for Bb bari's. So, look for old stock or look for a used one. It really is a great Bb stand.

Thanks Bones,
Any chance you could post some pictures of this stand? WW&BW sells a K&M stand but their online catalog doesn't have a picture to show which one it is.
