Well, we've talked about them for tenor until even I'm sick of it. But what about Otto Links on bari sax? Rubber? Metal?

Mike, I have a new 901 yani bari. I replaced the orginal mouthpiece(a yani 5) with a rubber otto link 7. It is more open (obviously) and seems to help with the lower notes. I still have a problem with my tone splitting at times and a buzzing tone on some notes. I am sure this is my fault. Thinking about another type of ligature and reed change. I am using Rico 2 at this time. I would appreciate any feedback from anybody.

Ya know - that may not be so far off... A little epoxy putty - a Dremel(sp?) tool .. and voila! a great bari piece for next to nothing....Naaa ;~)

I wonder what strength reeds the previous owner used. He sure could bite.

A metal ottolink works well for me on my low Bb Mark VI. I use the Oleg ligature. I have tried the same link on new horns ( Yanis, selmers JK's and the link seems very stuffy. Go figure...

Never had much success with a Link on a Bari.....they have always seemed to stuffy to my ear and lacking in the power necessary to overcome the band when soloing.

That's a Master Link. I have a copy of that for Bari. Add it to a 1919 TT Buescher and I've never found anything more centered or with better intonation across the range. Mine was worked on, before I got it. It had the old slide lig which I never received. Best mouthpiece I've ever played, but I've only played a handful. Might not beat some of the newer pieces or the Guardala/Barone stuff, or whatever, but I'll take it two for one against a Ponzol custom.

I have a metal Otto Link 6* on my SML bari, it also works well on the yani 901
I love the FAT sound it gives, much more refined than the *honk* of the Berg Larsen I used to play!

Who the heck designed my rubber Babbitt Link bari piece so that no known reed will fit it properly? Every brand of bari reed is too wide, and every brand of tenor reed too narrow (not to mention too short!).
Other than that, I quite like it. But I wonder if it wouldn't be better with a real bari table!

sounds like a case for Van Wie/Wanne.
He matched my Runyon to a set of Superials and it's just oh-so-dangerous now.

Paul how do you deal with that reed problem? file down the reeds, or get the MPs work on.

O.K.,, I play a vintage Buescher bari and I use a old link. I tried a dukoff but it doesn't quite do it for me. Still have the dukoff and I'm thinking of having it worked on some.

To Steve W..
sounds more like somebody getting used to playing bari more than any kind of mouthpiece and reed problem.. most player do not realize they have to develop "Bari Chops" before that rich deep sound uncracked will start to come out..just be patient and do long tones up and down the horn, after enough hours you will get the sound or close to the sound you want.. most of it is conception..

Yup & Magnus -- Yes, I know WHAT to do to get reeds to fit the Link, I just want to know WHY they'd make a piece that doesn't fit any reed made by anyone.
I actually don't play enough bari to make me want to redo the piece, and besides, it sounds good anyway. It just cuts into my chops. (not playing enough, yeah yeah I know I know.)

I use a metal Super Tone Master Link 6 with a HR Tenor ligature and a Plasticover 2 1/2 reed on the old Bundy at school. It gives a pretty nice tone provided I have the chops.

I haven't played Bari. for yrs. But I still have my old Link "Super" Tone Master 8* I wonder how it's going to feel on a new Silver Series II or vintage(1985) Super 80. I'm getting ready to buy a horn. I use Lakey Metal 7* on my MKVI Tenor and Dukoff Metal P9 on my VII Alto.

I too have been playing a vintage Otto Link Tone Master (6*) on my SML Bari.
I'm finding it projects a bit much for some groups, but maybe that is from the easy the SML/Link combo blows compared to my Bass Sax?!
