My Belmonte stand is starting to come apart. Can anyone recommend a good stable bari stand. Especially one designed for or adjustable to a low Bb horn. The Belmonte's not bad. The padding is starting to come off but I can probably fix it with duct tape.

i have not seen a better one than the one you have . i would fix the one you have . try automotive vacume hose as a replacement for the old padding .fish tank hose or surgical tubing if you can find it

Yes the Belmonte seems pretty sturdy and durable. The padding is starting to split open at the back but duct tape should do the trick. Surgical tubing sounds good too.

If you can find one (and it won't be easy), try to get one of the old La Voz bari stands. These are the only bari stands I would trust my horn to. I don't understand why nobody makes a decent bari stand these days.

Anyone use a Konig and Meyer? I have one for bass clarinet that's well designed and very solid.

The K&M stand is the same design as the Belmonte, but with some different materials for the parts that touch the horn. This stand design is available under quite a few different names.

Check out the Beechler bari stand. They make
the others look like match sticks. Pricey,
BUT, I was able to adapt one to reliably
hold my conn bass!! I gave my Belmontes away:-)

I have an old La Voz and they are good "drop in" stands. I modified the bell cradle to match the sax angle better. The Moreschi looks like similar cradle but I have not tried it.

I checked my WW/BW catalogue and the LaVoz is not listed. And the Beechler list doesn't show a bari stand. I can probably get some more mileage out of my Belmonte but I might go ahead and check out a K&M. Their bass clarinet stands are top-notch.

I think there are at least 2 different kinds of K&M bari stands. I have one that does work for a low Bb horn. A friend has one that he had to saw with a hacksaw for it to work with a low Bb horn.

My K&M bari stand is great. I find it really stable. I've been using mine about 2 years now.

If you go to the K&M internet site you can see the stands for bari and although one design is similar to the Belmonte it is a World apart in quality. K&M does not put it's name on inferior stands. They make one lightweight bari stand that is a bit different in design but a tubular adjustable stand that can hold a Bb bari and it is a terrific stand for both home and gigs.

I went to the K&M site and there was just one bari stand shown. It looks similar to my Belmonte. Is this one adjustable to a low Bb horn? If WW/BW has one in stock I might go ahead and order it. If it doesn't fit my horn I can return it. My Belmonte stand seems designed for low A only. In order to get it to fit my low Bb I have to raise the tripod adjustment up quite a bit and then the feet are close together so it's not very stable. I feel comfortable with this for doubling, when I set my bari on the stand for a tune here and there, but for breaks I put it back in the case if it's convenient.

On the K&M stand the little snap on holder at the bottom on the leg has two positions one for low A horns and one for low Bb horns, with the Bb horn the legs are still very far apart and stable, unlike the Belmonte configuration, the K&M that I have is also lighter in weight and steadier on the floor than the Belmonte design. Just be careful to be sure that the K&M you order has that snap in holder on the leg of the stand NOT the screw in type like the Belmonte.

Brian--thanks for the info. I called WW/BW yeasterday re the K&M stand but they were out of stock. They tell me that the K&M they carry (when they have it) is designed for low A but the telephone people usually aren't familiar with all the products. I'll go ahead and have them send me one when they come in and I'll check to make sure the bottom support has two settings.

I drilled a hole higher on the leg of my Belmonte stand to handle my Bb bari...no big deal and took all of a minute to do...

If the K&M doesn't pan out I'll probably have my repairman reset the Belmonte. I don't get within ten feet of a power tool myself.

The K&M stand I have has 3 holes for the bottem brace. To make it work for my Bb baritone I have the center pole just about touching the floor, and the bottem support on the top hole. This doesn't allow the legs to spread as much as when the stand is extended for the low A horns, but only about an 1" less, so it is more than stable enough. I have used it daily for 2 years with no problems.

I have heard rumours that K&M outsourced their bari stands to LA Sax. I don't know if it's true, but if it is, that could explain why the stands have changed design in the last few years. I believe that I received old stock.

I have not seen Lavoz stands for many years.

I personally have a K&M stand for my bari and soprano, and think they are great.

I have another bari stand (that will remain nameless)that has a strap around the bell, and the base has wheels. This is the most unstable stand I have seen, and my bari fell, damaging other saxes. Avoid this stand.

I bought a K & M bari stand a while ago because it wasn't too expensive but not really cheap. I guessed wrong. The thing has problems holding the bari and it slides off of the stand. Luckily I have always caught it before it does. I would not recommend the K&M bari stand. Unless you want to take 3 minutes to get it properly situated so it doesn't move around and then spend the time your not playing it watching it to make sure it doesn't fall off. However, the K&M soprano stand that fits inside the bell like a trumpet stand is a great buy.

Maybe the rumours are right and LA Sax is now making the K&Ms.
