(I posted this query on the "Vintage Saxes" thread also, but haven't had any responses, so I thought I would post it here as well.)
I am hoping someone might be able to give me ANY more info (beyond age) on my mother's Conn bari sax. I have been able to find web info to confirm its age(by serial number), but am wondering what OTHER information I can find. Were there various models of Conn baritone saxes back then?
Bari numbers:
Pat. Dec. 8, 1914
1119954
B
5xxxx
L
I now know that the 1st number is a patent number for the tone-hole rolling process and I know the B is for bari and the L is for low range. But, is there other information I can gather on this horn? Where and how? I can add that it is silver (original plating), built for the US Navy. Would it be considered a decent vintage horn today?
Any info would be appreciated. The horn is currently being overhauled as a surprise birthday present for my mom (her 80th) ... she plays it in two community bands. I would like to be able to give her some more info on the horn as well.
Thanks in advance ...
