Hi,
I am not a Bari player (yet) but I am thinking of getting one - this weekend in fact.
It is a Conn 12m c1969
I think this may be after the "golden years " of the conn (from what I read) - does anyone have any advice - basically- get it or not?

Cheers

If you dont' get it, shoot me the name and address. I'm looking for one also. I think you would be pleased as a doubling horn. I tried a guy's Conn this past weekend, and it was pretty nice, even though it was an ex-school beater.

I have a 1965 12m school beater and you should hear it. You may like it indeed.

What would a mid to late 60's 12M bari in usual school beater condition be worth?

As much as you want to spend. After buying the horn, figure on $600-700 total for repair work (dent removal, etc.) and a repad. A couple of shops I know won't touch a school beater baritone because restoring it could be more hassle than it's worth.

I test drove a 1964 12M awhile back. Awful relacquer job, nickel keys, not really beat up but showed lots of mileage. Sounded decent and needed a full overhaul. The price quoted was $1000 for the horn and another $400 for the repair work. I didn't buy it, but I would not have paid more than that.
