I have been playing synthetics for a while and I am considering trying cane again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hiya Noel,
What sort of mouthpiece do you currently play?
What are your aspirations for the instrument?
What sort of budget do you have for cane?
(Like many things, you get what you pay for.)

I'm in agreement with Subtone Sam. Hadn't played bari in 29 yrs., slapped on a Med. LaVoz, all systems go.

It all depends on you, your chops, and your horn & mouthpiece, of course, but I HIGHLY recommend the Rico Jazz Select reeds (the filed version is my personal favorite), but the ONLY way to decide is to experiment for yourself... have fun trying them out! :^)>

I just bought a ponzol HR custom and I had been playing bari plastic mediums, but I think the mediums are a little hard (low notes can be hard to play softly). I play on a guardala bari and I really dig brignola and cuber.

La Voz or RJS for the most part. I have been favouring Plasticovers on a Lamberson of late, huge sound and monstrously loud.

You may want to drop Pete a line through his website, he's an experienced player with the straight line on reed strength.
If you like the Bari synthetic, but would like a little less 'walking the plank' feel, try the Legere synthetic. I suppose a #2 1/2 is a good place to start. Legere offers a trade-in for strength changes if you keep the original package.
The LaVoz medium soft are surprisingly consistent out of the box. Try also the Hemke (pricy) and the Rigotti Gold for similar profiles.
The new Vandoren line has been more consistent, but they're expensive for the number of good players in each set.

I like the RJS, but not the price. I have been very happy with La Voz MH on all my saxes.

I have used only Vandoren Traditional and Rico Jazz Select and have been very happy wih both in terms of both performance and consistency.

I just ordered some la voz and a couple legere reeds. Hopefully this will help my control.
