I can play as high as I ever need to, but all the notes are just a continuation the range of my horn...

What I mean is, how does Sanborn get that really cool multiphonicy altissimo?

You can growl.
But Sanborn's technique is done by spreading out the airstream slightly and loosening up the embouchure so the note one octave below comes out partially while maintaining the altissimo note on top.

But when i growl, it just sounds like a friggen buzz saw.
