hey y'all. i have been working on my high notes lately. mark turner is pretty amazing to me. one thing he does that is cool is play beautiful sounding high notes with melodic clarity. i can't think of anyone before him who can do that. brecker a little bit. paquito does, but not quite as clearly as turner.

my high notes are 1)not beautiful 2)not in tune.
i mean this when i am playing a chromatic line up there, especially in the c#4-e4 area. if i play triads or something, they are in tune, but my chromatic scale makes me shutter.

i am pretty into my rascher studies right now, so i assume this helps. maybe it just takes months of overtone work, scale work, and on the job training?

however, if anyone knows any good pills for me to take, let me know.

thanks
Kevin

Yes, it takes a long time...if you aren't already doing them, include pitch bending exercises into your regiment...it will greatly help your intonation.

Also, start to look for fingerings that are better intune from one to the other. If you have to adjust the intonation a great deal from one note to the other, it is difficult to play them in succession without one being out of tune, or having a glissando affect where you don't want it.
